TV For Seniors wants to save you money! So if your TV is still using the built-in apps that load slowly, freeze, or don’t have the channels you actually watch, you have to check out the Fire TV Stick Select 4K deal that’s now available at Amazon as a time-limited promotion.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Select (newest model) is now just $19.99, down from $49.99. That’s 60 percent off the regular price.

Let me note here that this is not the best or most expensive Fire TV device. But it’s the simple one – and that’s exactly why it’s a good deal for seniors

What you get for your $20

For starters, you plug the stick into an HDMI port on the back of the TV. Then, power it with the included adapter (or a USB port on some TVs). Finally, connect it to your Wi-Fi network by going into Settings. And that’s it. The entire setup. Simple, right?

You then get:

• 4K Ultra HD picture (if your TV is 4K)

• HDR10+ for brighter, more natural color on supported shows; (HDR stands for High Dynamic Range which means more vivid pictures if the show or sporting event is available in HDR.)

• The Alexa Voice Remote. You press the mic button and say “Netflix,” “turn the volume down,” or “find Hallmark movies” and it will do it instantly. It turns a newbie senior into a veteran tech guru immediately.

• Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Hulu, Max, Apple TV, and hundreds and hundreds of other apps

• Free live TV channels (including your local newscasts in many markets) and Amazon’s free ad-supported library

• The 2026 Fire TV home screen, which Amazon redesigned so you spend less time scrolling

If you already have Amazon Prime, Prime Video is right there. If you don’t, you can still use the stick for every other service.

Why the Fire TV Stick 4K Select is easier for most people than a “Smart” TV.

A lot of older TVs have smart apps that feel old. Menus lag. Apps crash. Closed captions are buried. The Fire Stick replaces those menus. You use the stick instead of the Smart TV.

Voice search is the feature I hear about most from readers who don’t want to hunt through menus. You don’t have to type with the remote. You just talk. Seniors love that!

The remote can also power the TV on and off and change volume on many sets so you may not need two remotes on the coffee table.

Caveats: What this Fire TV Stick Select 4K is not

Let’s be honest about the stick before you order:

• It does not offer Dolby Vision. (For many seniors, who cares, right?) So if you have a high-end TV and watch a lot of Dolby Vision titles on Netflix or Disney+, look at the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus or 4K Max instead.

• The Wi-Fi is the older Wi-Fi 5 standard, not the dazzling new Wi-Fi 6. However, that’s fine for most homes. You probably wouldn’t notice any difference. But if your router is far from the TV and your 4K streams buffer, a wired adapter is better.

• The storage is 8 GB. That’s enough for the usual apps. But you may not have enough space if you’re planning to load up a few hundred apps. (Few do.)

• It runs Amazon’s newer Vega OS, not the older Fire OS. All everyday streaming apps such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney Plus and so on are all there. But you might not find that niche app that offers all movies about cats or whatever.

Who should buy the Fire TV Select 4K today

Buy it if:

• You have an older Smart TV that still looks good but the smart apps are terrible

• You want 4K on a second TV in the bedroom or den without paying for a fancy new set.

• You like talking to the remote instead of clicking through menus

• You want a gift that actually gets used!

Skip it if you already have a fast 4K Fire Stick or a Roku that works, or if Dolby Vision is a must.

Quick setup tips for seniors

1. Use the HDMI extender cable in the box if the port on the back of the TV is hard to reach.

2. Put the stick on the same Wi-Fi network as your phone or tablet.

3. After setup, go into Accessibility and turn on closed captions and high contrast if you want them. You can also make the text larger if you want.

4. Pin Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and your live-TV app to the home row on the Home Screen so they’re one click away.

5. Say “Alexa, find (show name) instead of searching with the arrow keys.

Returns are free within Amazon’s normal window if it isn’t the right fit.

Bottom line

At $50 this is a decent budget 4K stick. At $19.99 it is one of the easiest upgrades you can make to an aging TV.
