Apple TV next month (January 2026) plans to add new seasons of five original shows to its streaming lineup. Here’s a summary of the five shows – and my pick for the one not to miss.
New Apple TV Original Shows In January 2026
Tehran (Season three)
When to Watch: January 9
Who’s In It: Hugh Laurie, Niv Sultan
What Kind of Show: Drama
Niv Sultan stars as Tamar, a female Mossad secret agent who goes undercover in Iran to dismantle a nuclear reactor. In season three, which will include new cast member Hugh Laurie as a South African nuclear inspector, Tamar is on the run from Iran and Mossad. (Seasons one and two now available on Apple TV.)
Hijack (Season two)
When to Watch: January 14
Who’s In It: Idris Elba
What Kind of Show: Drama/Action
Idris Elba stars as a professional negotiator who must use his special set of skills to escape hostage situations. In season two, Elba’s character is trapped on a train. (Season one now available on Apple TV.)
Drops of God (Season two)
When to Watch: January 21
Who’s In It: Fleur Geffrier, Tomohisa Yamashita
What Kind of Show: Drama
The main characters compete for an inheritance with a series of tests involving wine. In season two, they go in search of the greatest wine ever made.
Shrinking (Season three)
When to Watch: January 28
Who’s In It: Harrison Ford, Jason Segel
What Kind of Show: Comedy/Drama
Jason Segel stars as a therapist who decides to get more involved in his patients’ lives after his wife dies. The cast includes Harrison Ford as the therapist’s mentor who has Parkinson’s Disease.
Yo Gabba Gabba Land (Season two)
When to Watch: January 30
Who’s In It: Muno, Foofa, Plex, Brobee and Toodee – and Magician Kammy Kam
What Kind of Show: Children’s/Variety
The sequel to the popular Nick Jr. children’s show (Yo Gabba Gabba), Yo Gabba Gabba Land features skits and musical performances featuring five lovable costumed characters. The previous show’s emcee, DJ Lance, has been replaced by magician Kammy Kam.
The One Apple TV Original You Don’t Want to Miss In January
Hijack (Season two)
In season one, Idris Elba (The Wire, Luther) plays a master negotiator who must use his special skills to stay alive when the plane he’s on is hijacked by a somewhat dysfunctional team of terrorists. Hijack doesn’t rely on conventional storylines. Just when you think you understand why the plane has been hijacked, the show peels back another layer of the onion, revealing more details about the whys and whos. Elba, who exploded onto the scene with his portrayal of the drug dealer, Stringer Bell, in HBO’s The Wire, is the best he’s ever been since that show. Like the terrorists, Elba’s character has conflicting motivations which are slowly revealed throughout the seven-episode first season and the actor does a splendid job of keeping his cards close to the vest until each revelation is served. Great show, great performance. In the eight episode season two, Elba is on a Berlin underground train when it’s taken hostage. Once again, he must find a way to keep himself and everyone else alive.
