Netflix New Releases October 2026

Netflix next month (October 2026, which begins tomorrow) will add 130 movies and shows to its streaming lineup. TV For Seniors has reviewed the list of Netflix new releases for October and come up with the three best new titles for older viewers:

3 Best New Titles For Older Netflix Viewers In October 2026

East of Eden (Netflix Original Series)
When to Watch: October 1
What Kind of Show: Drama
Who’s In It: Florence Pugh, Christopher Abbott, Joseph Zada, Mike Faist
Remember the classic 1955 East of Eden film starring James Dean and Julie Harris and directed by Elia Kazan (On the Waterfront)? Well, here’s the Netflix 2026 version (original series) directed by…Zoe Kazan, Elia’s granddaughter. Florence Pugh stars as Cathy, the young woman torn between two (very) different brothers who pursue the American dream with unintended consequences. The story comes from the 1952 John Steinbeck novel which apparently was altered somewhat to accommodate the series which dates from the Civil War to World War I. Like literary adaptations? Remember the original film? This one is for you.

Animals (2026)
When to Watch: October 9
What Kind of Movie: Crime drama
Who’s In It: Ben Affleck, Kerry Washington, Gillian Anderson
Ben Affleck triple hyphens (stars, directs and co-writes) this Netflix original crime thriller about a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped – and then has just hours to assemble the ransom. This is familiar territory for Affleck who enjoyed great success with the heist film, The Town, and the political drama, Argo. Looks like a winner for older viewers who appreciate sophisticated themes with non-stop action.

The Diplomat: Season Four
When to Watch: Thursday, October 15
What Kind of Show: Political Drama
Who’s In It: Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford
Keri Russell, who shined so brightly as a Russian agent in FX’s The Americans, returns to the political/espionage stage in season four of the Netflix original series, The Diplomat. Russell started out the series as a U.S. ambassador to England who must manage a series of international conflicts while watching her marriage crumble. In season three, Russell’s Kate Wyler had to cope with the death of a president and her husband’s political ascent. In season four, the Wylers may be headed for divorce while the United States may be headed for war with Russia! Yikes! Seasons one through three also now available on Netflix.

More Shows to Consider
Fans of the great 1980s comedy sketch show, SCTV, will enjoy the Netflix doc on its making with interviews with stars Martin Short, Eugene Levy and others. Debuts October 30. October 1 will bring a slew of new movie additions including the 1960 Alfred Hitchcock thriller, Psycho.
