Netflix New Releases September 2026: It’s a big month for Netflix which will host a NFL game on September 10 (49ers vs. Rams at 8 p.m. ET) as well as add several original shows and movies and some classic TV. TV For Seniors has reviewed the list of additions for September and come up with the three best new titles for older viewers:

Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story
Who’s In It: Ella Beatty, Vicky Krieps, Charlie Hunnam
What Kind of Show: True Crime (Eight episode series)
When to Watch: September 17
Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie Borden, the infamous ax-wielding (accused) murderer of her parents in 1892 Massachusetts. The show was created by Ian Brennan (Glee, Monster) but it comes from the Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) production house which means it will be pulpy, campy and highly provocative. Legend has it that Lizzie did the deed but don’t be surprised if we get a different view here. Older viewers should especially appreciate the series which promises a fresh perspective on a 134-year-old case.

When to Watch: September 25
The Netflix original film stars Jacob Tremblay as Ted Kaczynski, the brilliant professor turned terrorist who murdered three people and injured 23 with letter bombs sent to random individuals between 1978 and 1995. Unabomber also promises a new perspective on a famous case with Russell Crowe (Gladiator) playing a fellow professor who subjected Kaczynski to a series of controversial psychological experiments. The film suggests the experiments may have transformed Kaczynski from man to monster. Older viewers who followed the case in real time should appreciate this new look.
Turning Point: Generation 9/11
What Kind of Show: Documentary
When to Watch: September 2
September 11 will mark the 25th anniversary of the horrific terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. that killed more than 3,000 people. This Netflix documentary will examine how the events changed America, particularly children and young adults whose important development years were suddenly rooted in fear and loss. The documentary should appeal to older viewers who still have vivid memories of that day, and its aftermath.
