DIRECTV MySports $49.99 First Month

DIRECTV is now offering its MySports Genre Pack for just $49.99 for the first month.

(The regular price is $64.99 a month and that price will apply to your bill in month two if you don’t cancel prior to the end of the first month. See our story on how to make sure you cancel free trials and promotional rates before you’re billed.)

DIRECTV MySports, which is only available via streaming, is a worthy option for sports fans who want the major national sports channels without paying more for a traditional programming bundle which includes non-sports networks.

What’s In DIRECTV’s MySports Lineup?

MySports includes more than 20 live sports and broadcast networks. The channels include ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNews, FS1, FS2, MLB Network, NFL Network, NHL Network, NBA TV, CBS Sports Network, Golf Channel, Tennis Channel, TNT and TBS. Local ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox affiliates are included where available.

Do You Get ESPN Unlimited For Free?

The big bonus here is the ESPN Unlimited Plan subscription which is included for free. The sports network’s app normally costs about $30 a month on its own. But you can use your DIRECTV user name and password to access the app and watch supplemental programming not found on the regular ESPN channel as well as live sports from leagues like the NBA, MLB, NHL, WNBA, college football, and more. With the college football and NFL seasons soon to start, you can see the advantage of getting this plan now.

You also get Multiview with MySports so you can watch up to four games at once on your TV. There’s unlimited cloud DVR for recording games.

And DIRECTV satellite customers, take note: There is no annual contract! You can cancel anytime.

Is There a Free Trial?

A five-day free trial is also available for new subscribers so you actually get 35 days of programming for $49.99.

Blackout restrictions apply, and local channels vary by ZIP code. (Your regional sports channel may be included for an extra $19.99 a month. Check here for local availability.)

You can also add mini-packs like the eight-channel MySports Extra (free for the first month; $13.99 in month two and beyond) for NFL RedZone.

The offer is obviously timed for the fall football season, college games, and other major sports. But definitely check your local availability and exact channel list on the DIRECTV site before signing up, since some features and locals depend on your area.

Is MySports Really a Good Deal?

Final note: I have used DIRECTV streaming from time to time over the last several years and found it to be a reliable service with a crisp picture, arguably better than satellite. If you’re a big sports plan, the $49.99 deal is definitely intriguing, particularly when you get the ESPN app. But if you’re a fan of non-sports channels, you probably will get frustrated with the missing lifestyle/entertainment networks.
