TV Answer Man, do you know if Comcast will carry the Tigers? – name and town withheld.
Comcast’s Xfinity TV has announced that starting today it will carry nine MLB (Major League Baseball) teams that were previously on regional sports networks (MASN and FanDuel Sports Network). The nine teams are: Nationals, Mariners, Reds, Royals, Brewers, Tigers, Cardinals, Marlins, and Rays. They all are playing in Opening Day games today. (See update on Atlanta Braves at the end of the article.)
The nine teams exited their agreements with the RSNs earlier this year and started their own streaming plans at ‘team.tv’ in conjunction with MLB Media. But until this week, they did not have cable or satellite carriage agreements.
A Comcast spokeswoman told The TV Answer Man that the teams will be in the same plans as they were in 2025.
As for the Atlanta Braves, the spokeswoman said Comcast is in discussions with the team. With Atlanta playing its first game on Friday, it’s quite possible that an announcement will come tomorrow.
Update: Comcast and the Braves announced Thursday afternoon that the team’s games will be on Xfinity TV starting with tomorrow’s first game. The channel will be 1254.
