TV Answer Man, is Peacock doing the Sunday Night Football games in 4K? – Brad, Lafayette, Louisiana.

Updated from yesterday’s post:

Brad, Peacock streams NBC’s broadcasts of Sunday Night Football including Sunday night’s (October 19) game at 8 p.m. ET between the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers.

The Peacock streams have been available in 1080p HD, which is the best picture quality for high-def. However, some eagle-eyed readers have notified me that Peacock is showing the 4K tag for tonight’s game.

Now, does that mean the game will be available in 4K?

Not necessarily. Peacock has mislabeled live sporting events in the past, saying an HD stream would be in 4K when it actually wasn’t. In 2023, the streamer also stopped doing Big Ten college basketball games in 4K after announcing that it would do them in the higher format for the entire season.

Consequently, we can’t assume that the 4K tag for the Falcons-49ers game means that it will be in 4K. (And even if it is, it will undoubtedly be upscaled 4K.) NBC Sports and Peacock have not made any announcements regarding a 4K broadcast of the game.

We’ll just have to wait until 8 p.m. ET tonight to see if the game is actually in 4K. (I will ask NBC Sports later today for a comment but, frankly, I’m not expecting a response on a Sunday.)

Update: NBC Sports has not responded to our e-mail as of 4:30 a.m. ET on Monday. We will update this article if we get a response from the network.

Update #2: NBC Sports Vice President Dan Masonson tells The TV Answer Man on Monday afternoon that Sunday Night Football is still in 1080p HD.

Brad, hope that helps. Happy viewing and stay safe!
