Netflix plans to remove 27 movies from its streaming lineup after October 31, 2024. Here’s the three best you should definitely watch before they leave, in my humble opinion.
La La Land (2016)
La La Land is guaranteed to lift your spirits and perhaps your feet as well. Directed by Damien Chazelle, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as a struggling jazz pianist and actress respectively in cold-hearted Los Angeles. However, their dreams fuel a zest for life that keeps them on their toes, literally and figuratively. A throwback to the great MGM musicals of the 1940s, La La Land is a feast for the eyes (and the soul) and was wholly worthy of its Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.
Jack Reacher (2012)
While at times it’s hard to accept 5’7″ Tom Cruise as an intimidating force, Jack Reacher is still a fun romp with the aforementioned playing a former U.S. Army special forces officer who investigates the unjust arrest of a former Army sniper. Cruise kicks butt and takes names enroute to solving who really committed a mass murder in Pittsburgh. Based on a Lee Child novel, Jack Reacher also includes a splendid supporting cast including Rosamund Pike as a defense attorney and everybody’s favorite ‘that guy,’ Richard Jenkins, as her father and district attorney.
World War Z (2013)
Brad Pitt plays a United Nations investigator whose family is on the run after Earth is attacked by a bunch of zombies. Okay, I know what you’re going to say. Another zombie film?! True, but Pitt’s movie star charisma makes this one different. You’re rooting for him from start to finish as he tries to save his family and concoct a plan to kill the baddies. Mireille Enos is also very good as his supportive (and resourceful) wife.
