Netflix next month (September 2024) plans to add 86 new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here are the three most interesting new titles, in my humble opinion:
The Perfect Couple (Netflix Original Series)
Nicole Kidman stars as a famous Nantucket novelist who opposes her son’s pending marriage to a beautiful young woman (Eve Hewson). But what’s normally a run-of-the-mill family scrap becomes much more when a body washes up on the beach. Also starring Dakota Fanning, Liev Schreiber and Billy Howie, The Perfect Couple sounds like the perfect next obsession for those who love mysteries stirred with a touch of pulp. Debuts September 5.
Emily in Paris – Season 4: Part 2 (Netflix Original)
Lily Collins is back as Emily Cooper, the American ingenue who moves to Paris to teach a Parisian marketing firm a few things about American ingenuity. Or so she thinks. Along the way, she encounters irresistible Parisian men, confounding language barriers and other obstacles that only Emily could find. The Netflix original comedy is a feel-good delight with Collins a revelation in the title role; her performance is a throwback to those classic comedic turns from the 1960s/70s (Mary Tyler Moore in The Mary Tyler Moore Show; Marlo Thomas in That Girl, etc.) In season four (part one of S4 debuted in August) Collins’ Emily has set her sights on Gabriel now that he’s single while making a side trip to another confusing land. The second half of season four will premiere on September 12.
Jaws (1975) – Netflix
I know. How can I pick a movie that’s nearly 50 years old as one of the most interesting new titles of the month? But the big fish drama from director Steven Spielberg remains one of the tautest and most suspenseful movies ever made with outstanding performances from Roy Scheider as the town sheriff, Richard Dreyfuss and the marine biologist and Robert Shaw as the crafty boat captain. And what a great time to watch (or rewatch) the film with summer almost over. Debuts Sunday, September 1.

Also be on the lookout for Netflix’s September 25 debut of Mr. McMahon, a documentary on the iconic wrestling promoter from Bill Simmons and Chris Smith.
