Walmart’s Fall Deals for Seniors, October 5–11: What to Buy Now

Seniors, if the menu on your TV has turned into a maze, and you’re having trouble hearing the dialogue of your favorite show, Walmart’s Fall Deals are definitely worth a look tonight. The sale starts at midnight Eastern time on Monday, October 5, and runs through Sunday, October 11. But most sale prices are available now and there’s no Walmart membership required! The mega retailer is advertising up to 40 percent off tech products. (Deals are available in store and online but some discounts may not be available at retail until tomorrow, Monday.)

Amazon is launching its two-day Prime Big Deals Days sale on Tuesday, October 6, so Walmart is being aggressive with pricing here, particularly on large-screen TVs.

And these are the sets that solve the problems older viewers actually have: a remote you can talk to, captions you can leave on, and a box you can pick up at the store instead of wrestling out of a delivery truck or possibly lose to a porch pirate! Prices quoted here were on Walmart.com on the afternoon of October 4. They can change at midnight. But buy only items sold and shipped by Walmart.

The sale page, which includes products in all categories, is here: Walmart Fall Deals.

Looking For a New TV?

Does your current set seem a little small? Well a 65-inch screen is easier on the eyes than the 40-inch set many people are still using. This VIZIO 65-inch Class Quantum 4K QLED Smart TV (VQD65R-10) is now $328, down from $498. The remote has a microphone, so you can say ‘Sunday Night Football’ or ‘All George Clooney movies’ instead of typing it. Closed captions are in the settings. The set is about 57 inches wide with the feet on. Pro tip: Measure the stand before you order.

It might be time to get a bigger TV if your room can handle it.

The onn. 65-inch 4K TV powered by VIZIO (65S4V4) is now listed at $258 if you want the bigger screen at the house-brand price. The VIZIO 50-inch Mini LED Quantum (VQM50C-10) is now $248 and can pair with Bluetooth headphones so you can raise the sound without raising it for the whole house. But be sure to confirm those prices on their page.

Need a Better TV Menu?

What if your set is just fine but the menu is indecipherable? You might just need a simpler screen via a streaming device which can be connected to the TV. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K is now $44, down from about $49, and it plugs into an HDMI port on your TV. The voice remote powers the TV and controls the volume. After it is on, go to Settings, Accessibility, Captions, and set captions to On always if you want them on your screen.

When The Real Problem Is Sound

The Beats Studio Pro over-ear headphones are now listed on Walmart’s deals page at $149, down from $349.99. Over-the-ear cups are easier for a whole game than tiny earbuds. Confirm you are buying the headphones, not a bundle, and that Walmart is the seller.

Important Tips For Seniors (And Everyone!)

– Use the store pickup when buying a television. You can see the box before you leave, and a return is simpler if a corner is crushed. Many electronics qualify for holiday returns through January 31. Read that line on the product page.

– Ignore a huge crossed-out price from a third-party seller. On October 6 and 7, compare the same model at Amazon before you buy a TV. Walmart does not match that price.

– If a page tells you to call a number to “confirm the deal,” close it. Walmart does not do that.
