Will ESPN+ Still Include ‘NHL Power Play’ Games?

TV Answer Man, with the new ESPN app, do you know if the NHL Power Play games will still be included in the ESPN+ plan for $11.99? I don’t want to get the more expensive app if I don’t have to. – Nate, Duluth, Minnesota.
Nate, since 2021, ESPN has held the rights to the National Hockey League’s online plan for out-of-market games, eliminating the old NHL.TV. Rather than sell the package for a separate fee, which the league did with NHL.TV, ESPN has included it as part of the ESPN+ subscription and called it the NHL Power Play.
That’s been a great deal for hockey fans since ESPN+ has been around $10 a month and NHL Power Play has offered 50 exclusive NHL games plus more than 1,000 out-of-market games.
NHL Power Play games have also included the choice of two separate live streams with either home team or away team commentary, as well as Canadian national presentations of Hockey Night in Canada. Replays of every NHL regular season and playoff game on ABC, ESPN, NHL Network, and TNT have also been available to stream on NHL Power Play on ESPN+.
However, with the launch of the new ESPN Unlimited app, which costs $29.99 a month, a handful of readers have asked me if ESPN will require hockey fans to get the more expensive service to continue watching NHL Power Play. Or, will it continue to be available on ESPN+, which now costs $11.99 a month.
So, we asked ESPN today and a network spokeswoman said: “The out of market package for NHL will still be available on ESPN+, via the ESPN Select plan.”
In addition to the 1,050 out-of-market games, NHL Power Play will include 47 exclusive NHL games this season on ESPN+ as well as the features offered during previous seasons on the streamer.
Nate, I hope that answers your question. Happy viewing and stay safe!
