HBO Max this week (August 18-24, 2025) plans to add nine new TV shows and movies to its streaming lineup. Here’s the one to watch, in my humble opinion:
Peacemaker, Season 2 Premiere
Release Date: Thursday, August 21
John Cena (pictured above) stars as the DC Comics superhero Peacemaker who returns to fight evil forces including butterfly-like creatures who inhabit human bodies. Showrunner James Gunn, the director of 2025’s Superman blockbuster, says Cena’s character will soften somewhat in season two, showing less ‘a—hole’ tendencies. Shame; that’s what we liked best about him. Regardless, Peacemaker has become another DC Comics success story and season two should be a huge ratings generator for the Warner Bros. Discovery exec team who could use a victory or two right about now.
