Amazon Prime Video to Add 184 New Movies In October – Here’s the 5 Best

Amazon this month (October 2024) plans to add 184 new movies to its Prime Video streaming lineup. Here are the five best, in my humble opinion:
Elvis (2022)
Austin Butler is sensational as the King of Rock n’ Roll in this raucous Baz Luhrmann-directed biofilm which chronicles Presley’s rise and fall. Tom Hanks plays Colonel Parker, the controlling mastermind behind Elvis’ commercial success. There have been many who have attempted to portray Elvis over the years to varying degrees of success, but Butler’s performance captures the singer’s charisma and hold over his audience unlike any before. A star making role.
Raging Bull (1980)
Collaborating with director Martin Scorsese once again, Robert De Niro delivered an Oscar-winning performance as Jake LaMotta, a raging bull inside and out of the ring. The physical and emotional transformation De Niro underwent for the role is awe-inspiring. Raging Bull remains a pinnacle of cinematic storytelling, showcasing both De Niro’s dedication and Scorsese’s directorial brilliance. And it also represents the first pairing of De Niro with Joe Pesci who later teamed with him in Goodfellas, Casino and The Irishman.
Lost in Translation (2003)
Lost in Translation is a hidden gem from director Sofia Coppola (Priscilla) who captures the human need for connection through the weary eyes of an over-the-hill TV actor (Bill Murray) and a beautiful ingenue (Scarlett Johansson). Set in the over-crowded but still isolating city of Tokyo, the film’s delicate exploration of cross-cultural encounters, coupled with Murray and Johansson’s on-screen chemistry, evokes an indelible and bittersweet emotional resonance. Beautiful, charming movie.
Mad Max (1979)
The post-apocalyptic film stars Mel Gibson as a police officer forced to enter survival mode when society becomes lawless due to shortages of critical resources. The movie made Mel a star but don’t forget director George Miller’s visionary storytelling and flawless scene staging. Classic work.
The Silence of the Lambs (1991)
The drama/thriller starring Jodie Foster as a young FBI agent who’s enlists the help of a psychopathic serial killer (Anthony Hopkins in the role of a lifetime) to catch another psychopathic serial killer.
