Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, plans to add 34 new TV shows and movies this week (July 7-13, 2024.) Here are the three most interesting, in my humble opinion:
Faye (HBO Original)
Faye Dunaway, the star of such classics as Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown and Network, will discuss her tumultuous and triumph career in this HBO original documentary. Dunaway was notorious for being the ‘difficult one’ on the set but the doc will chronicle her lifelong struggle with a bipolar disorder and related mental health issues. Faye will also include interview with former co-stars and friends such as Mickey Rourke and Sharon Stone. Debuts Saturday, July 13.
Alien Sharks: Ghosts of Japan
Max is celebrating Shark Month with a slew of shark-related shows from its sister channel, Discovery. For the most interesting one, we’ll take Alien Sharks: Ghosts of Japan which will feature the search for the Japanese Angelshark, a rare sea inhabitant known in the Orient as the ghost of the sea. Debuts Wednesday, July 10.
Quad Gods (2024, HBO Original)
The documentary movie features three quadriplegic men who form the first esports gaming team, using innovative devices to master the gaming world. However, the venture is more than a diversion as they develop new techniques and technologies to improve neurological rehabilitation. Inspiring film.
